Beating Your Competition in the Current Job Market

We all know that we're in the middle of a really tough job market right now. Record numbers of people are out of work looking for a job. It can be quite stressful for the job seeker and the companies that are looking for qualified people. The companies are getting more and more under qualified resumes from people who are just trying to get any job they can. If you want to be successful in getting the job, you must come off as professional and polished with the proper skills to gain an edge on your competition. Let's go over a few things you can do to beat your competition in the current job market.

The first thing you must do is treat your job search as a job in itself. Work at it at least 5 days a week for at least a few hours a day. This time will be spent researching, contacting potential employers (not all job openings are advertised, a simple phone call at the right time could get you that job), networking, and handing out resumes to as many places that you can find for jobs you are qualified for. This here is key, you must be qualified for the jobs you apply to.

Be prepared to go to many interviews as employers are often giving 3 to 5 different interviews to find the best qualified job applicants. Brush up on your interviewing skills and be prepared and professional. Know what you want to say before you interview and maybe do a little practice with a family member or friend. Set up a mock interview and see how you do and what you need to work on.

That was just a couple of tips that you'll need to know to beat your competition in the current job market. Do your research and make sure that you always act professionally and appropriately at all times because you never know when you could be standing in line next to your future boss or co-worker.
